Brisbane have survived a controversial Selwyn Cobbo sin-binning to down a spirited Canterbury outfit and move top of the NRL ladder with a 44-22 win.

Cobbo was placed on report by referee Ziggy Przeklasa-Adamski in the 38th minute when he led with his elbow in a tackle with Toby Sexton.

The newly-signed Bulldogs halfback suffered a category-two concussion meaning he could still be passed fit to face premiers Penrith next week.

Sexton’s exit signalled the end of Canterbury’s hopes of a victory in front of 17,103 fans at Belmore, with Brisbane scoring three second-half tries to put the game beyond reach.

Adam Reynolds proved the difference between the two sides, setting up three tries for a Broncos side who were without Patrick Carrigan, Payne Haas and Corey Oates.

While Brisbane moved to first on the ladder with the victory, they are likely to cede that position to Penrith who face the Dolphins on Sunday.

The rickety old ground was rocking at the farewell to Josh Reynolds and both sides played with abandon on a sun-kissed Saturday afternoon.
