The Cronulla Sharks have ended their NRLW season on a high, with a record-breaking win over the Parramatta Eels in Canberra.

The Sharks smashed their opponents in a dominant first half, and kept going in the second 35 to register a 56-6 victory.

Cronulla made seven line breaks to Parramatta’s one in the first stanza, as the Eels were made to pay for their inability to complete sets.

The Sharks had two tries on the board before the Eels had possession of the ball, with Tayla Preston scoring on the opening set, and Tegan Dymock going over three minutes later.

Ellie Johnston scored her team’s third 11 minutes in, and then another drop from Parramatta was punished, with Cassie Staples turning the corner and racing down the left touchline to make it 22-0 at the 20 minute mark.

A bomb from Tayla Preston set up the fifth of the day, as Georgia Ravics used excellent hands to tap the ball in the air and regather before running in to score.

There was time for Anessa Biddle to add one more try before the break, giving the Sharks a 34-0 lead, an NRLW record score for one half.

The Eels lifted their defence in the second half, but they still couldn’t get on the board.

Chloe Saunders added another try early, then after a sustaained period of pressure from the Eels without success, Johnston went over from close range for her second of the day to make it 46-0 with 15 to go.

No NRLW team had scored 50 points in a game, but the Sharks made it with seven minutes to go, when Anessa Biddle charged over on the right for the team’s ninth try.

The Eels finally scored a consolation try in the 67th minute, with Monique Donovan taking advantage of a Sharks knock-on to score in the corner.

The previous biggest winning margin was 38 points, when the Roosters beat Wests Tigers 48-10 in round six, but the Sharks eclipsed that number, with Ravics finishing off one more move in the final minute of play.

Tayla Preston’s final conversion gave her another league record with 20 individual points for the game to make the final score 56-6.
