Within the current administration who is the most incompetent? It’s hard to pick. No one is worse at their job than Karine Jean-Pierre. She’s the Michael Jordan of malapropisms. Each day she amazes the nation with new levels of ineptitude, but alas, she’s not in a position of power.
Depending on the day, Kamala Harris is always in the running. When she’s not marveling at a Venn diagram, she cackles with glee over electric school buses, but she has no authority save for an occasional tie-breaking vote in the Senate. She is, like her boss when he was Veep, inhabiting a job “worth a warm bucket of spit.”
No, my pick is Pete Butterg.
“Mayor Pete” was picked for Transportation Secretary owing to his one qualification – he checked the gay box. Buttigieg is gay and married and that qualified him for this cabinet. Kamala filled two boxes – but Pete filled that critical gay box. One cannot have a Joe Biden cabinet without a gay married man. Some might say that Mayor Pete ran for president and was a Mayor but at both, he failed – and failed miserably. At the latter, he infamously failed to fill South Bend potholes. But he’s gay, so he’s the Transportation Secretary.
Pete disappeared while the nation was reeling from a transportation meltdown. He had more important things to do. He was on maternity leave with his husband – taking weeks on end of leave to nurse. Transportation, it seemed, could wait while Pete’s babies bonded with their dads.
In 2021, Buttigieg attributed the supply chain crisis and ships sitting offshore to Joe Biden’s awesome job of causing inflation saying “Demand is up because income is up because the president has successfully guided this economy out of the teeth of a terrifying recession.”
When there was an airline crisis, Mayor Pete sent a scolding letter to airlines, likely dictated on his private plane asking them to provide food vouchers to stranded fliers. He has famously been spotted exiting his SUV only to ride a bike half a mile for a photo-op.
He was over his head as the mayor of a small town, but he’s gay so he’s cabinet secretary material.
When a train derailed in Ohio, forcing the evacuation of East Palestine, Ohio, Mayor Pete was nowhere to be seen or heard. He was busy doing more important transportation things, like blaming white men. For what you may ask? Is there anything that cannot be blamed on white men?
While the East Palestine derailment and the surrounding ground and water contamination has polluted Ohio and the Ohio River for the past 11 days, Pete wasn’t on the ground assessing. He was at a National Association of Counties conference reminding everyone that white men are bad, particularly those white guys who build homes and office buildings, bridges, and roads.
We have heard way too many stories from generations past of infrastructure where you got a neighborhood, often a neighborhood of color, that finally sees the project come to them, but everyone in the hard hats on that project, doing the good paying jobs, don’t look like they came from anywhere near the neighborhood,”
You can find his latest gem at the 4-minute mark.
You may recall (and if you don’t know I will remind you) that “racism is physically built into highways.”
Mayor Pete has yet to visit the worst transportation-related ecological disaster in recent memory in East Palestine. He never mentioned East Palestine, but did mention white men in hard hats at the conference.
Why hasn’t he visited East Palestine? It’s 93 percent white. Maybe too few virtue points to score? Likely too many white men who wear hard hats.
