We have a trade! They’ve made us earn it today, but one of those big, complicated multi-club deals has been completed late in the day. Paddy Dow is a Saint, Nick Coffield is a Bulldog, and a million picks have shuffled around as well.
This has absolutely given me a headache trying to map this all out.
Here’s how (I think) it shakes out:
- St Kilda — IN: Paddy Dow, pick 40, future third round pick (Carlton) OUT: Nick Coffield, pick 35, pick 56, future fourth round pick (Fremantle)
- Western Bulldogs — IN: Nick Coffield, pick 52, pick 56 OUT: Pick 40, future fourth round pick
- Essendon — IN: Pick 35, future fourth round pick (Carlton) OUT: Pick 52, future third round pick
- Carlton — IN: Future third round pick (Essendon), future fourth round pick (Fremantle), future fourth round pick (Bulldogs). OUT: Paddy Dow, future third round pick, future fourth round pick
I think that’s right. Honestly, I’m not sure any of this makes sense anymore but that’s my best effort.
The AFL is yet to ratify it but that should come through tonight, otherwise it would have to wait for tomorrow’s 3pm embargo.
