Santiago Mazari is attributed with drug trafficking and being one of the main generators of violence in Morelos and Guerrero.
The leader of the criminal group Los Rojos, Santiago Mazari aka El Carrete , who operated in Morelos and Guerrero, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his full responsibility in the crime of organized crime.
The Attorney General’s Office, through the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), obtained the conviction from the Eighth District Court in Uruapan, Michoacan.
El Carrete is accused of drug trafficking and of being one of the main instigators of violence in Morelos and Guerrero.
He was arrested in August 2019 by elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, when an arrest warrant was served against him.
In recent days, and after complying with the reinstatement of the proceedings ordered by the corresponding authority, he was sentenced and will remain detained in the Federal Center for Social Readaptation 13 “CPS-Oaxaca”.
Los Rojos disputed the territory of Morelos with the Guerreros Unidos group and for many years maintained a scale of violence. They even subdued several municipal presidents to deliver different monthly quotas as a means of extortion.
