“Socalj” for Borderland Beat

The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) intercepted a shrimp vessel named “Tapilu III”, which was carrying a considerable shipment of methamphetamine, as well as two vessels carrying more than 10,000 liters of fuel, in the Pacific near Mazatlán; while 12 people were arrested.

The undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja announced this Thursday during the morning press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the seizure was carried out between November 9 and 10, as part of the operations at sea to detect the trafficking of illicit substances.

The ship was carrying 10 tons of drugs in its holds and, after being cornered, the criminals submerged the boat into the sea, managing to recover only 440 kilograms of methamphetamine, said Mejía Berdeja. “When they were detained, they submerged the boat, once the materials were collected, 440 kilograms could be rescued.”

Two other vessels were seized and had 10,600 liters of fuel in their possession.
These are vessels 60, 61, and 62 insured so far in 2022. The detainees and the seized material were concentrated in Mazatlán, to be made available to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR).
