Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) is now admitting that there may be some fire underneath all of the smoke surrounding California’s impeccably coiffed Governor Gavin Newsom. This is one of the most remarkable admissions of the obvious since a certain little kid pointed out that the emperor was, in fact, parading around in his birthday suit. The Senator is now admitting that there may be something to the Trump administration’s investigation into his state’s governor.

California Sen. Adam Schiff weighed in on the US Department of Justice probe into Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
“I’m not saying that there can never be merit to an investigation… even when it involves someone who is not a fan of the president,” he told KCRA’s Ashley Zavala. “But what we are seeing, what we have seen, is such dramatic proof of the abuse of the department.
“I mean, is it out of the realm of possibility that there could be a legitimate investigation here stemming from that, at least?
Translate politician-speak to English, and you get this, with Donald Sutherland standing in for Adam Schiff and Veronica Cartwright as Gavin Newsom:

The Senator, full of Schiff as usual, also claims:
“The indictment of James Comey over seashells, for example, is inexplicable. That case will be thrown out. It’s just a question of how soon it will be thrown out, whether it’s thrown out by a judge or thrown out by a jury. That is a terrible abuse,” he said.
That’s called “a distraction.” Senator Schiff, reverting to form, is trying to deflect attention from his buddy’s legal woes. Principals, not principles.

Here’s the thing: Whatever we might think of Senator Adam Schiff – and that’s not much – he is a political creature. And, as a political creature, he’s looking not to the future of his pal, Gavin Newsom, nor to the future of his party, the Democrats. He’s looking to keep his own butt out of a sling, and leaving himself some wiggle room by admitting that there is something to this investigation, after all. He has, in fact, managed to overcome his terminal Trump Derangement Syndrome to admit something that’s been staggeringly obvious to most observers of all things political for months. Then, of course, he does a lateral arabesque, heading back to the same old “Orange Man Bad” well, accusing the Trump administration of doing what Democratic administrations have been doing for years.

Still, this may be a telling statement. Could the California Senator be the first of the rats to be looking for a way off the sinking USS Newsom? Or is he, as usual, just full of Schiff?
