“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
With a 7.62 caliber weapon better known as a “Cuernos de Chivo” and another 9mm, armed subjects entered a mechanic shop in Tecate, minutes before one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 4. There were four of them, witnesses told ZETA.
Martin aka “El Brócoli”, 22, and Jorge Hugo, 36, both workers at the garage located at 1020 Río Eufrates Street in the Jardines del Río neighborhood in Tecate, were shot in the chest and head. Martin died at the scene, while Jorge lost his life on the way to the General Hospital.
According to witnesses, the assailants were traveling in a light-colored Honda vehicle with dark tinted windows.
At the scene 7, AK-47 rifle casings and 8 more 9mm cartridge casings were found. “El Broccoli,” according to the members of the security team, was identified by neighbors of the surrounding neighborhoods as a member of a criminal group that operates in the area.
The executions were attributed by authorities to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, after the aggresors left a message written on a poster board in one of the scenes warning “this will happen to the scumbags, either they line up or they will be killed. Sincerely, CJNG F.R.B.C.”. And a drawing of crutches crisscrossed with a skull.
In the last fifteen days in Tecate, there have been nine executions, five of which were carried out with an AK-47 rifle. In addition to the gunfire against people present at a party that was being held in the same neighborhood where these last two executions took place, Jardin del Rio.
