“El Lic” for Borderland Beat

The following is a translation of an article written by Brandon Sainz for Los Noticieristas

The FGE agent named in ‘narcomantas’ [narco banners] is still missing.

The agent of the Investigative Police of the Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office [FGE], Alberto “N” [or Ramón Alberto Báez Ochoa], accused of robbery and other crimes in the ‘narcomantas’ that appeared hanging in various parts of Culiacán after the massive ‘kidnapping’ of families in March, is still missing.

Prosecutor Sara Bruna Quiñonez Estrada stated that the active agent of the FGE has not been located and his family also does not want to give information or speak about the situation.

“We have him listed as a missing person. We have some data that can confirm what was said on the banners, but nothing more than that. He has not reappeared. No family member has attempted to approach us to communicate anything or given us a statement,” she said.

The prosecutor explained that when the ‘narco banners’ were found, the agent had already been missing for two days, but it was not until they saw his photograph on the banners that they realized that his absence was not due to a normal mishap and they opened an investigation.

“When the banner happened, he had already been absent for two days, but two days did not alarm us completely. But when the banner came out, we verified that his absence had been long enough for him to notify us, to determine if there had been a mishap, and he did not notify us, so an investigation was opened,” he said.

Quiñonez Estrada commented that the accusations made on the banner are a hard blow and an embarrassment for the FGE.

“For us it is a blow, it is a shame that one of our active elements, someone that we consider trustworthy enough to handle investigations, and then to see that, of course it does hurt. I regret it deeply,” he said.

She said that the missing agent had his salary suspended and his case was referred to the internal review department.

When asked how long the investigator had been with the corporation, she said she could not remember, but added that it was quite a long time.
