Three hitmen were killed and another was arrested after a government operation in San José del Cabo, as local authorities sought to strike at the criminal organization responsible for a Saturday night shootout that left six injured and two dead, including an American citizen.

The shoutout occurred on Monday around 5:30 p.m. in Colonia Ballenas of San José del Cabo, a neighborhood just west of the airport. Based on intelligence work, authorities identified and approached a safe house, where they were met with gunfire from at least four gunmen. In the exchange of gunfire, three criminals were killed and a fourth was arrested. Authorities also seized 12 rifles, 23 magazines, ammunition, a Colt 40mm grenade launcher, 13 ballistic tactical vests and plate carriers, and three vehicles.

The raid was one of three operations carried out by authorities in San José del Cabo that day, an unusual security force mobilization prompted by a major shootout between security forces and criminals in Santa Anita, a neighborhood north of San José del Cabo two nights before. The shootout left two soldiers and five innocent bystanders wounded, with two others dying of their injuries. One of the killed civilians was an American citizen from California.

In another operation on the same day in the Oasis neighborhood of San José del Cabo, a man originally from Mexicali, Baja California was arrested, along with two rifles (an AR-15 and a .50 cal rifle), tactical equipment, a Chevy Suburban, and a pet tiger.

Later, in another property in San José del Cabo, authorities located 47 plate carrier vests, 62 ballistic plates, communication radios, a money counter, an AR-15, ammunition, cell phones, and drugs.
