It was well before the 2024 election when the press and Democrats (overlap noted) began their mantra about Donald Trump ruining the country if reelected, because he would never leave office if he got back in. This would be a Constitution-shredding effort, leaving our federal foundation in a pile of rubble as he sought to remain in power in perpetuity.

But there is some remarkable silence seen in the national news outlets when that very behavior is taking place right now, and no one is shrieking from the satellite dishes about democracy being left in cinders. Perhaps it is because this is (unsurprisingly) taking place in the Commie Collective of California People (CCCP).
In the town of Avenal, a power battle is taking place between the city council and the mayor, and the citizens who want them gone. The conflict has developed over the decision of the council to institute the city’s own fire department and fire marshal. The proposal was criticized as a move that would double the cost of fire protection, and it was approved without the mandated public hearings. The citizens largely opposed these moves and voiced this concern during council meetings last year, leading to the call for the special election.
Despite widespread opposition, the mayor and city council moved forward with funding for the new fire department. Residents responded by forcing a recall election, and nearly 75 percent of voters chose to remove them from office. Now the politicians are refusing to leave.

All four members are stating that the election was not valid, as it was held by the county. They contend that the county had no cause, as a special election of this nature could only be staged by the city. That election was held in late April, yet all of the members voted out of office have refused to leave their positions.
Early this month, they even went forward with a new council meeting, and as expected, it was a highly contentious affair. A restraining order was called for by some of the citizens. As the citizens raged at the audacity on display, they held a vote, and the council agreed unanimously to retain their positions. (One council member, who was not recalled, opposes their lingering nature.)
Before the election, the council was suing Kings County officials over the election, which they claim is invalid. This has raised questions as to how they are bringing the suit, as the move has been made to bar the council, which is considered invalid, from accessing public funds.
The desires of the council have been routinely shot down legally. That suit over the election was overruled by an appeals court, and the vote was permitted to take place. Also at issue is the new fire department and marshal.

Another issue arose over an event staged at a building that the new city fire marshal deemed appropriate. But the Kings County fire department found the building was in no way up to fire code, as it had no electricity and therefore no alarms on site nor a sprinkler system. As a result, the new fire department was inoperable for weeks before a county judge ordered the county fire department — which had previously covered Avenal — to reinstate its services.
Considering the corruption, ineptitude, and complete refusal to cede to the wishes of the voters, this is a group of rogue politicians that should raise the hackles of democracy-loving news outlets. As one citizen put it at the last council meeting, “Talk about corruption…you’re worse than Trump!”
