“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

A video begins with a catchy cumbia in the vein of Fito Olivares playing in the background. The song has hints of the type of music that he was producing back in the mid 90’s. Only this isn’t the musical work of Mr. Olivares whose common themes were about love, heartache, and good times.

It’s actually Matmoros native Yahir Saldívar crooning in support for the Grupo Escorpión, the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel. It was only natural that the hymns of one legendary Tamaulipas native would rub off on another local musician.

However, his compositions have been purposely inverted on its head in order to reflect certain changes across the landscape. Which coincidentally is also emulated by anonymous children in a video who naively mimic the very things that they see within their surroundings.
