A war of words erupted last week between Mexico’s president and the lawyer for one of the country’s most notorious drug lords, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Jeffrey Lichtman — who represents both the Sinaloa Cartel’s El Chapo and his son, Ovidio — accused President Claudia Sheinbaum of defending Mexico’s drug cartels.
Lichtman said Sheinbaum: “acts more as the PR arm of a narcotics trafficking organization than as the honest leader Mexicans deserve.”
