There was no shortage of ridicule a couple of months back when the DNC released its post-mortem of the 2024 general election. The long-touted but then withheld document became a contentious item within the dysfunctional party, as party leader Ken Martin moved from bold assertions that it needed to be released to recanting and then steadfastly declaring it would not go public. It was only in the face of internal turmoil that Martin relented, and what came out was a deeply embarrassing and amateurish document that, in fact, should have been squelched.

What got released was a nearly 200-page analysis of a party that flinched from looking in the mirror. It failed to address key issues clearly on display, and what was not a case of avoidance was one of neutered denials. The report was so bad that their own party members were scorching the leadership over the ineptitude.

The Democrats now have another case of needed introspection, and it stands as another they want to turn away from. The absolute debacle playing out in Maine has the party looking like panicked freshmen inside of a burning gymnasium. And the worst for them is that this is a wholly self-created fiasco. Again.

SEE: Platner Makes a Mockery of Democrats’ ‘Party of Accountability’ Claim

The entire reason Graham Platner has delivered a result that the best political melodrama screenwriter could not deliver is that this part was operating on undiluted, naked ambition. Party savants had decided that Republican incumbent Susan Collins was a Senate vet who is vulnerable this November, and they took smoke-filled-room chicanery to new (lowered) levels.

The first issue they grappled with was that the prime name positioned to take over from Collins was Governor Janet Mills. The party has not been thrilled with Mills, and her age was looked at as another challenge, as it would see her being a 78-year-old freshman. It is another sign of Chuck Schumer’s eroding influence that he was a proponent of having Mills run for the seat, but the larger party was far less motivated.

This was demonstrated by two realities. One indicator of the Democratic machine’s intentions was Platner being platformed as early as last summer. The New York Times did a lengthy piece on the guy before he was an official candidate. This was followed by The New Yorker delivering a 3,400-word bio on the complete nobody. Next came features in GQ (because his shoddy togs are a trend???) and he was even featured in Bon Appétit. As we now know, his entire biography was a fabrication, as his blue-collar bona fides were not at all genuine.

The other indicator of Democratic intentions is seen in the money. Mills had to back out of campaigning by April because her coffers ran dry, and the charisma-free nobody who never held an office was Hoovering cash like a Biden-era green energy startup. What is telling today is that while they face a deadline of Monday afternoon for a replacement on the ticket, Mills is not even among the names being considered.

But the Democrats realized early on that their prefab candidate sported more skeletons than the back alley of an abattoir. What is astounding is how none of Platner’s problems were a mystery. His flaws were evident in beta testing, but the Democrats were operating with the confidence that they could sell him with sheer will and a compliant media complex. The entirety of their game plan was rooted in showing Susan Collins as a lapdog of the administration and answering any controversy with “But Trump!” Then the flaws were seen to be actual factory defects, but the party forged ahead with their pimping of Platner.

It was in October that the biggest red flag was being waved, but instead of heeding the warning, they chose to ignite that banner. Genevieve McDonald was serving as Platner’s campaign director when she stepped down early on, in October of 2025, citing numerous disturbing social media posts that were discovered, as well as other issues. Instead of using this as an inspiration for investigation, the press played the role of spackling over the cracks.

Soon after, the Nazi tattoo emerged as a reality, and we saw the media strive to tell us how a death camp emblem emblazoned on someone’s skin was in no way indicative of an individual’s affection for Third Reich fascist dogma. So the fix was evident, and the Democrats operated with confidence that the public could be gaslit over their disaster of a candidate.

It was in May when McDonald was heard from again. This time it was when she was the source that revealed how Der Oysterfuhrer had a history of sexual impropriety and sexting issues. This revelation came after Platner’s insistence that all of his controversies had been exposed and in the past, so the Dems and the press — again — worked in tandem to tell us all was well. It was how they reacted to this that was the most soulless example of political blindness.

McDonald became the one to come under attack for daring to expose some deeply severe character issues with Platner. The sexting was revealed to have not been a youthful indiscretion but something he engaged in after his marriage. Further, he was using a dating app infamous for preying on minors. But despite this disturbing exposure, McDonald, not Platner, was the one accused of behaving unethically.

She had turned on her client and also allegedly violated a sacred trust with Platner’s wife, who had been the one to come forward with the information as they set up the campaign. So Genevieve became the villain in this development, according to the press. Note here, they had to sidestep the reality that the entire campaign knew of these issues last fall, and were not denying the reality of the content, all as Graham was on news outlets for months, insisting there were no issues of this sort coming out.

It was brazen lying by all involved: the campaign, the press, and certainly the Democrats all knew these facts and said otherwise, concerning the man with the completely fabricated history of being a hardscrabble blue-collar vet who wants to fight corruption. By now, we can see that this woven fiction surrounding Platner is a clownish narrative so inept it sounds worse than a Mad Libs storyline derived from an eight-year-old hopped up on cough medicine.

That things have reached this point is a testament to how corrupted the Democratic Party has become in the Trump 2.0 era. The party feels it can trot out anyone — it can craft any backstory it pleases to burnish their choice — and the Democrat voters will still back that person, because Trump is the entire focus of any decision.

Those TDS blinders are so thorough that today, as they take them off and see a smoldering crater in Maine, all they can do is look around to find whom they can point fingers at. And then they will toss the blinders aside…and pull on a blindfold.
