Republican Rep. Max Miller (OH-07) is taking the unusual step of calling for an investigation into himself to clear his name as allegations of domestic abuse roil his reelection effort.

Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), has accused him of acting abusively toward her, and her father has called for Miller to resign. Rep. Miller has strongly denied the allegations and says he will share all relevant information with the House Ethics Committee.

The relationship between Miller and Emily Moreno has been fraught in recent months:
The two divorced in 2025 and have been engaged in a bitter custody battle over their daughter.
Even if the Ethics Committee does open an investigation, it’s highly unlikely the slow-moving panel would release a report ahead of November.
Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), Miller’s ex-father-in-law, over the weekend called for Miller to resign from office, arguing that he needs “to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.”

Moreno said the whole saga has taken a toll on his family:
On Tuesday, he said what his family had gone through was “the seventh level of hell.”
“This has been a horrific experience for my entire family. My daughter lives in constant fear of this man, not like something that’s existential, but deeply in her heart, she fears what this guy is capable of,” he said. “You can’t you can’t fathom what that makes me feel like when the dad’s number one job is to protect your kids. This has been brutal, beyond comprehension.”
Miller has repeatedly said he will not drop out of his race against challenger Brian Poindexter, a union ironworker and Brook Park city councilman who won the Democrat primary in May. President Trump, who endorsed Miller, has not called for him to drop out, but reportedly called the representative on Monday to express his concerns about his candidacy.
