“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
An element of the municipal police of Ensenada died and another was left seriously injured. This was the result on the night of this Friday, February 16, of an attack in the San Antonio de las Minas community, official sources confirmed.
In this place, subjects aboard two vehicles attacked a municipal police patrol, at the gas station that is on the side of the Ensenada-Tecate highway.
The two police officers were carrying out surveillance and traveling aboard the Ensenada Municipal Public Security unit U-BC-1426, assigned to the San Antonio de Las Minas community, on the Ensenada – Tecate highway that leads to the so-called Ruta del Vino.
The agents were attacked with bursts of high-powered weapons, which resulted in serious injuries to both elements who were sheltered in a local business while ambulances arrived at the scene.
At the scene of the attack, agent Gabriel Cintura Castellanos died and another officer, Raúl Alberto “N”, was seriously injured and was transferred to Ensenada for medical attention.
The attackers were allegedly four individuals who ambushed the agents from two vehicles, one white and the other a Chevy Suburban, who shot at the elements with long weapons.
There is a security operation in the area that is reinforced by various corporations at exits and entrances to other roads.
