News started to emerge on Friday, February 24, 2023 that a joint federal operation was being carried out in Tamazula, Durango by Navy and Sedena special forces, with accompanying helicopters flying in the mountains in Durango to capture Aureliano “Guano” Guzman.
People have described Aureliano “Guano” Guzman as being smarter than his brother Chapo Guzman or as being more business savvy. Let’s not forget because we all from time to time have short term memory that Guano Guzman killed his half brother Ernesto Guzman Hidalgo without Chapo Guzman’s approval, and who also happened to be the grandfather of Alfredo”Tito” “Dos Banderas” Beltran Guzman. Guano Guzman and Cristobal Muros “El 02” are believed to be the masterminds behind the murder of Ernesto Guzman Hidalgo, who was in good standing with Chapo Guzman. After Chapo Guzman escaped from Altiplano in July 11, 2015, one of the first things Chapo did was to call his brother Guano Guzman for a meeting. El Chapo slapped his brother Guano Guzman for killing their half brother, reported Riodoce. Cristobal Muros El 02 was killed in an ambushed in the mountains of Badiraguato when called to a meeting and anyone connected to the murder was killed in orders from Chapo Guzman.
The ensuing war between Tito Beltran and Guano Guzman for La Tuna in Badiraguato is history.
Guano Guzman also reportedly does not have the closest relationship with his nephews Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, the leaders of the Guzman faction within the Sinaloa Cartel. Ivan and Alfredo have their own group and Aureliano “Guano” Guzman leads his own group.
As of Saturday, February 26, news outlets have not reported anything official on if whether “Guano” was captured or not. Before Rafael “Caro” Quintero was captured, reportedly more than twelve raids where conducted until the Navy finally reach its objective.
The capture of Guano Guzman in my opinion would give Mexican President López Obrador a major boost and would shut down once again his critics, just months after the capture of Ovidio Guzman.
