MI AG Charges Non-Citizens for That Thing SOS Jocelyn Benson Claims Never Happens in Elections

That thing that Democrats claim never happens is happening again, this time in Michigan. In 2024, five illegal aliens registered to vote or cast ballots in the general election, and one U.S. citizen registered her non-citizen husband. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has filed charges against these individuals following an investigation into suspected non-citizen voting cases referred by the Michigan Department of State (MDS).

Only six being charged, you say? It’s a drop in the bucket, and apparently part of a broader investigation by Michigan officials. In 2025, MDS referred to Nessel’s AG office 16 cases of suspected illegals and/or non-citizens voting in the 2024 general election, and through July 2026, MDS referred another 22 cases of illegal aliens or non-citizens voting fraudulently or exhibiting conduct related to voter fraud. These cases spanned elections from 2009 through 2025. 

According to local reporting: 

Of the 38 total cases, six have resulted in criminal charges, 10 have been closed without charges and 22 remain under review, according to Nessel’s office. […]

Voter registrations associated with every identified noncitizen voter, charged or otherwise, have been cancelled.

Michael Akioya, 39, of Oak Park, faces two 90-day misdemeanors: making a false statement on an absent voter ballot application and making a false statement on an absentee ballot return envelope.

According to Nessel, Akioya is not a U.S. citizen, but is lawfully residing in the country; a distinction without a difference when it comes to voting. In 2016, Akioya was registered to vote in one part of the state. In 2024, investigators allege he voted by absentee ballot in another part of the state, where he claimed on the ballot materials that he was a United States citizen.

Kimberley DiDonato, 60, of Rose Township, faces charges of election forgery, a five-year felony, and using a computer to commit a crime, a seven-year felony.

U.S. citizen DiDonato is married to a lawful permanent resident. Where DiDonato went south was in 2024, she used her husband’s information to register him to vote online, falsely claiming he was a U.S. citizen. According to investigators, after DiDonato received a voter registration card in her husband’s name, she contacted her county clerk to cancel the registration. DiDonato claims she was testing the voter registration system for vulnerabilities.

Mmmkay. This is the same excuse that legal permanent resident Robert Piva gave to investigators. Piva claimed his casting a vote was part of an experiment involving voter fraud. 

Piva, 67, of Roseville, faces charges of election law perjury, a five-year felony; attempting to vote as an unqualified elector, a four-year felony; and fraudulent registration, a 90-day misdemeanor. Piva, a lawful permanent resident, is accused of registering to vote online in September 2024 and casting a ballot during early voting in Roseville the following month.

Alondra Harker, 26, of Three Rivers, is charged with fraudulent registration, a 90-day misdemeanor. Harker, described by the attorney general’s office as a limited-term alien resident, is accused of registering to vote and casting a ballot in person in Three Rivers during the 2024 general election.

Harumi Michael, 60, of Wolverine Lake, faces two counts of election law forgery, each a five-year felony; one count of attempting to vote as an unqualified elector, a four-year felony; and one count of making a false statement on a voter registration application, a 90-day misdemeanor. Michael, a lawful permanent resident, is accused of registering to vote in 2024 and casting a ballot in person in Commerce Township.

Basanth Sadasivian, 29, who resides in the United Kingdom, faces one count of attempting to vote as an unqualified elector, a four-year felony. Investigators allege Sadasivian registered to vote in 2024 by email through the Federal Post Card Application system using a Bloomfield Hills address and voted through the same federal system in the 2024 general election.

Of note is who was the Secretary of State for most of this period. That would be the 43rd Secretary of State and Democrat gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. Benson was elected to the SOS office in 2018, so much of the voter fraud and the subsequent mess in the way elections are handled should be draped around her neck like an albatross. In 2024, Benson testified before Congress that despite “numerous organizations” combing through Michigan’s voting records, there was no evidence that illegal aliens had voted in their elections.

Benson is also one of the secretaries of state who is being sued by the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division for refusing to release Michigan’s voter rolls. If there is nothing to see and everything is above board, why is she refusing?

This should give Republican Rep. and nominee for governor John James (MI-10) ample oppo against Benson, who shouldn’t even be Secretary of State, let alone anywhere near the governor’s mansion.
