
“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
On Tuesday afternoon, in the Mision del Valle subdivision in Morelia, an armed confrontation took place between the Inter-institutional Reaction Group (GRI) and local criminals. As a result, two investigative agents lost their lives and an element of the National Guard was wounded, the house where the confrontation took place was completely shot, causing an impact among the population of Morelia and neighbors of the subdivision.
What happened in Mision del Valle in Morelia?
According to the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office, authorities noticed a Nissan March that matched the description of a car linked to several investigation files. As they approached the car, a man ran towards a nearby house, from where he opened fire on the security forces.
In the aggression, investigative agents Yonathan Jorge N. and Edgar Eduardo N. were killed, while a member of the National Guard was injured and was transferred to the Central Military Hospital in Mexico City.
After an intense confrontation that lasted more than an hour, seven people were arrested, identified as Carlos Eduardo N., José Efraín N., César Alejandro N., Yonathan Alejandro N., Julio Alberto N., Saúl N. and Iván N.
In addition to the arrests, authorities seized seven firearms for the exclusive use of the Army, magazines, rounds and tactical equipment, as well as various quantities of green plants with the characteristics of marijuana and crystal meth.
The area was guarded by security elements to guarantee the safety of citizens passing through the area, while the bodies of the two deceased agents were taken to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) to continue with the investigations and clarify the facts.
The Michoacan State Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into the events that occurred in the Mision del Valle subdivision.
