There is a rumored truce between the CDS factions of Chapitos and Mayos. In alleged desperation, each faction will allegedly put aside their misunderstandings, and together they plan to attack the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in their fortress of el Triangulo Dorado, or the Golden Triangle
The Sinaloa Cartel appears to have been resisting the onslaught of the CJNG in the Golden Triangle but incurred a high amount of casualties and suffered severe internal divisions.
Thus, when the US government announced a five million dollar reward for Los Chapitos, the sons of Chapo Guzmán, the Sinaloans seemed to pause their internal fighting in order to concentrate on taking control of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and San Luis Potosí. Los Cabreras played a prominent role in this offensive, a group led by the Cabrera Sarabia brothers.
The entry of the CJNG to Durango would have broken the “peace narca”, a peace that has been maintained for ten years in this part of the Golden Triangle.
This peace only came about because in 2010, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada sent the Cabrera Sarabia brothers to extinguish the Núñez family, also known as Los Ms, a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel that had “heated” the square with about five hundred kidnappings, disappearances, and murders.
Then in 2021, in order to keep Durango and Coahuila protected, the “Grupo Flechas, Operativo MZ” was formed and put under the command of José Luis Cabrera Sarabia. The objective of the Sinaloa Cartel is to remove the CJNG from Zacatecas and to take control of Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí, currently in dispute.

To defeat their common enemy, Los Chapitos and Mayo Zambada made a truce in the war that first began when Mayo refused to rescue Ovidio Guzmán from the hands of the Army in 2019. Los Chapitos also put on hold the disputes they later engaged in with El Russo, loyal to Zambada.
In 2010, after the Cabrera Sarabias successfully lowered the violence within Durango, Coahuila. The Comarca Laguneras continued in their fight against the Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas, and the Beltran Leyva for territory.
A decade later, the Sinaloa Cartel has still maintained its dominance in those regions, as well as in Sinaloa and the southern municipalities of Chihuahua – although internal conflicts broke out in the latter between rival cells of Los Salazars and Los Salgueiros.
In addition to keeping the mountainous area of the Golden Triangle – a traditional producer of marijuana and poppy – protected against other cartels, the Sinaloa Cartel is now trying to consolidate itself in Zacatecas, where the violence of its struggle with the CJNG has drawn the attention of the National Guard.
Mica’s Analysis
The alleged truce makes sense, and it’s not a far-fetched idea. There is no evidence at this time to verify this rumor. However, there is evidence to the contrary – the internal fighting of CDS has resulted in blood just this week.
Implementing a truce between psychopaths never goes as planned in an organization full of criminals. The internal fighting of CDS is personal, and there will be individuals who will not comply and start their own thing. It could even be the perfect storm for a disgruntled employee to switch sides.
So is CJNG fighting for something other than more control, or are they after total dominance of Mexico?
