An off-duty municipal police officer from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, was shot outside the People’s Gym, where she died while receiving medical attention.
Julissa Sarahí, 21 years old, is the name of the young agent, who last year was shot while she was in the company of Daniel Hurtada Esquer, 41 years old, a former commander of the San Luis Río Colorado Municipal Police who was removed from his post, according to the authorities, for having links with organized crime.
The events took place on Wednesday afternoon, on 19th Street, between Venustiano Carranza and Callejón Guadalupe Victoria, where the young woman was surprised by armed criminals who shot at her.
Municipal police and investigators went to the scene and began with the investigation, but also mounted an operation in the surrounding area, with the intention of locating those responsible for the attack.
The young Julissa Sarahí, was killed while unarmed and off duty, by thugs. According to official information provided by the Attorney General of Sonora, her personal life is being investigated, but the possible involvement of organized crime is also being considered.
More than 15 members of the San Luis Río Colorado Municipal Police have been murdered during the administration of Santos González Yescas, the first Morena political party Municipal President in the community, who has tried to minimize the violence, but has also tried to protect police officers who are allegedly involved in criminal acts.
Just a month ago, four officers from the same police force were shot at while they were outside the house of one of the officers; one of the policemen died and three others were seriously wounded. A journalist was also killed in the incident.
