The Trump Justice Department appears to be moving quickly to shut down the practice of racial gerrymandering once and for all, ensuring the Supreme Court’s latest ruling is enforced nationwide.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon made that crystal clear Thursday when she responded to Senator Eric Schmitt’s (R-MO) specific request on the matter with a straightforward “we are on it!”
Dhillon went on to stress that the DOJ under Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is committed to equal protection for all Americans. Which shouldn’t be a novel idea in today’s world, but clearly is for our friends on the left.
Schmitt had pressed the department in a previous thread on X, urging officials to use their full authority to enforce the Supreme Court’s recent decision nationwide. He pointed out that the feds clearly have the power to step in and stop states from continuing these Democrat-led, race-based map-drawing schemes.
Senator — we are ON IT! This @TheJusticeDept under @DAGToddBlanche continues to prioritize equal protection of the laws for ALL Americans, be it in employment, housing, education — and VOTING! https://t.co/7MHpwgQMis

Supreme Court Strikes Down Louisiana’s Congressional Map in Major Voting Rights Ruling
“DOJ has the power to enforce this decision nationwide and must use it to end illegal racially-gerrymandered districts,” Schmitt declared, adding, “It’s time to enforce our laws and our color-blind Constitution. We must undo prior race-based actions.”
Again, it is a significant and reasonable request to stop focusing representation on constituents’ skin color, a concept you’d think everybody would be in favor of.

Today—as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution—I urged @DAGToddBlanche and @AAGDhillon to act on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais.

Barack Obama may be the hardest hit by Dhillon’s pronouncement.
The Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s congressional maps on Wednesday, ruling that the state went too far by creating a second majority-Black district based primarily on race rather than traditional redistricting principles.
The former President, raging hypocrite that he is, had a mild coronary over the ruling. This, despite the fact that he was against gerrymandering before he was for it and, apparently, before he was back to opposing it.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities,” he whined, “so long as they do it under the guise of ‘partisanship’ rather than explicit ‘racial bias.'”
Think about that one for a minute. The nation’s first black president supports racially motivated redistricting over non-partisan redistricting efforts.

Poor guy is going to pull a muscle trying to pander on both sides of the issue.
If you were ever tempted to take Barack Obama’s racial fear-mongering as anything other than manipulation and opportunism, consider this…

Any state relying on racially gerrymandered districts—from Louisiana to California and beyond—will likely have to redraw its maps, removing the uncertainty hanging over the battle for House control this fall.
Democrats have leaned heavily on these race-conscious districts to protect their power and manufacture safe seats. Which is their modus operandi — maintaining power by any means necessary, even if it’s racist.
By enforcing the Court’s colorblind standard, Trump’s DOJ is pulling the rug out from under those efforts. Elections will be decided by voters rather than racial quotas and backroom map-rigging.
It’s a long-overdue correction. And it just might level the playing field a lot more come November.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
