That thing that Democrats claim rarely, if ever, happens has happened again, this time with a twist. This time it’s a Chinese national living in Andover, Massachusetts, who voted fraudulently in the 2024 presidential election. He voted after impersonating another Chinese national, and then – get this – reported the other Chinese national for voting illegally.

I’m not sure if that’s chutzpah, stupidity, or both. The United States Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts broke the news:

The post reads:
BREAKING Chinese national arrested for allegedly casting a fraudulent ballot in the 2024 presidential election by impersonating a lawful permanent resident — then reporting the victim to federal authorities for “illegally” voting.
The 33-year-old Andover resident also allegedly impersonated the victim and his wife in fraudulent immigration filings, resulting in the confiscation of their Green Cards and their placement in removal proceedings.
The defendant will appear at 2 p.m. today in federal court in Boston.
There is also an official press release, with some interesting details.
Yupeng Sun, 33, was charged with one count of fraudulent voter registration and one count of fraudulent voting. Sun will appear in federal court in Boston for an initial appearance today at 2:00 p.m.
According to court filings, on Oct. 10, 2024, Sun allegedly submitted an online voter registration through the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website impersonating another Chinese national residing in Massachusetts with legal permanent resident (“LPR”) status. On Oct. 31, 2024, Sun allegedly continued to impersonate the other Chinese national and submitted an early voting ballot at Malden City Hall for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Here’s where it gets to be a bit of a puzzler:
After registering to vote and voting, Sun allegedly submitted several anonymous tips in April and May 2026 to Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) stating that the victim “illegally voted in the 2024 U.S. presidential election” and noting that “[h]e is not a U.S. citizen but a permanent resident.”
That’s a new one, and it seems an action that was certain to draw attention from the authorities – as it did.
The press release also contains some exhibits, which the U.S. Justice Department also released on X.

Attached are an early ballot envelope, mostly obscured, and a copy of one of the anonymous reports. The anonymous report notes that “The subject illegally voted in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. He is not a U.S. citizen but a permanent resident. He registered to vote via a Massachusetts government website and voted in person at Malden City Hall.”
This would appear to be more of a setup, something done out of personal animosity rather than an attempt to vote illegally to try to influence the election. Yupeng Sun not only used another Chinese national’s identity to fraudulently register and to vote, but he tried to get him in trouble with immigration authorities in other ways, as well. As pointed out, Sun also impersonated the other, unnamed Chinese national and his wife in submitting fraudulent immigration paperwork. The Chinese couple he attacked with this fraud were legal residents, and he managed to land them in hot water, including getting their green cards revoked. That’s a serious matter that can and should be made right.

Personal animosity or not, this is still revealing of some serious weaknesses in the Massachusetts voter registration and voting process. Needless to say, with the SAVE America Act in place, Sun shouldn’t have been able to produce the documentation required to register, and without some identification, he wouldn’t have been able to assume someone else’s identity to vote; at least, not quite so easily.
