“Char” for Borderland Beat

Gaudencio “R” was a member of a criminal cell

Almost a year after the blockades in Ixtlahuacán del Río and Zapopan, one of the five people arrested after those events was sentenced, although the conviction was not for those violent acts but for the weapons, cartridges and explosives that were found on him.

According to the investigation file, the arrest was made after elements of the Secretariat of National Defense surprised them while conducting a surveillance tour in the vicinity of the town of El Sauz, in the municipality of Ixtlahuacán del Río, and detained Gaudencio “R”, who was driving a vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, the military officers found inside a 7.62 x 39 millimeter rifle known as “Cuerno de Chivo”; a 7.62 x 51 millimeter rifle; eleven magazines, 381 cartridges of various calibers, a tactical vest and 24 homemade explosive devices.
As a result, Gaudencio “R”, who was a member of a criminal cell, was handed over to the Federal Prosecutor of the Attorney General’s Office in Jalisco, who, after analyzing the case, referred him to a judge.
Gaudencio “R” took advantage of the abbreviated procedure, for which he obtained benefits. He was sentenced to nine years, five months and 24 days in prison, as well as paying a fine of 8,467 pesos and 36 cents.
He was found guilty of the crime of Violation of the Federal Firearms and Explosives Law, in its modality of possession of cartridges, magazines and carrying firearms for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.
It should be noted that he was not found to be related to the blockades of August 9, 2022, in which an alleged criminal was killed.
He is already serving his sentence in the Puente Grande prison complex. The rest of the detainees remain under criminal proceedings.
