“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

Following the death of María Consuelo Loera Pérez, mother of drug trafficker Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán -currently imprisoned in the United States-, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that all people who lose their lives deserve respect, as do her family members, as they are going through a painful process.

The drug lord’s mother died this Sunday, December 10 at around 2:30 p.m. at the age of 94, confirmed lawyer José Luis González Meza.

López Obrador sent his condolences to El Chapo Guzmán’s family after the death of the drug lord’s mother. He assured that nothing human is alien to him and that he prefers to live under the universal philosophical principle of loving one’s neighbor.

“I have no further comment, any human being who loses their life deserves respect and also consideration for their family members, this goes for everyone who go through those times.

“Nothing human is alien to me and we must not hate, we must put into practice this philosophical, universal principle of love for our neighbor and only by being good individuals can we be happy,” said the president in a morning press conference at the National Palace.

In an interview with MILENIO, El Chapo Guzmán’s lawyer confirmed the information published in the media Línea Directa, that she had been admitted to a private medical center in Culiacán, Sinaloa, for several weeks until this Sunday, at around 2:30 p.m., the medical center staff reportedly notified the 911 emergency services of his death.

According to the information available, the death was due to natural causes.

AMLO greeted El Chapo Guzmán’s mother

On March 29, 2020, almost four years ago, López Obrador personally greeted Doña Consuelo and received a letter from her during the supervision of the construction of the recently inaugurated Badiraguato-Guadalupe y Calvo highway.

In response to the controversy that arose from that moment, the President responded: “Yes, I did greet her, our adversaries, the conservatives, also made a scandal about it”.

“She went to where the road was being constructed and they told me she was there and wanted to greet me, I got out of the vehicle and greeted her. She is a 92 year old lady and I already said the baneful plague is corruption, not a senior citizen who deserves all my respect, regardless of who her son is”, said the President on that occasion.
