Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is having a terrible, no good, very bad couple of weeks. Former Reality TV star and mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt leveled Bass in a May 6th mayoral debate. So much so that Bass begged out of another televised debate on May 13, opting to do one-on-one interviews with favored press.

And who could be more favorable than the leftist clown car over at MS NOW? On Saturday, Bass appeared with Jonathan Capeheart on “The Weekend” to talk about her goals for her second term. The lowlights: restoring copper wire in the streetlights, and dealing with the problems of L.A. that have “existed for 3-plus decades.” Bass also dismissed Spencer Pratt by accusing him of being an anger ball who connects with the generalized anger that exists all over the country.
Mmmkay.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass accused the Republican challenger in her reelection race of using a “general sense of anger” to motivate support for his mayoral bid.
“I think that he is tapping into a general sense of anger that people have, not just in Los Angeles, but in many other places around our country,” Bass told MS NOW on Saturday morning.
Not “many other places,” Karen, ONLY ONE. What other city’s mayor was warned about high winds and fire danger, dismissed it, and went to Africa? What other city’s mayor allowed their residents’ homes to burn down and blamed it on climate change? What other city’s mayor is pushing for healthcare for the homeless drug addicts so that methheads can get their teeth fixed?
No, my dear, Los Angeles is uniquely angry, and uniquely awful, and that awfulness has increased exponentially in the four years Bass has been in City Hall. Another Spencer Pratt fan has tapped into the awfulness that is Karen Bass, as well as the connection that Pratt has to the people of L.A. and their concerns with another banger AI ad.

But Bass is gonna Karen. She remains abysmal because she can only be who she is: forever tone deaf and totally lacking in self-awareness. After the May 6 debate, where she sputtered and stuttered, the dimwitted Mayor of L.A. accused Pratt of capitalizing on people’s grief, then blamed the climate and an “unprecedented weather event” for the Palisades Fire.

This disgraceful response from Bass should be enough for voters to reject her at the ballot box.
So, Spencer Pratt doesn’t have to try and tap into a “general” anger; the majority of Los Angeles has been there for a long time, and Pratt is simply amplifying their voices. But he is not the only one.

One activist, known as William Gude, crashed a groundbreaking ceremony where Karen Bass was scheduled to put in an appearance. The ceremony was for a new interim housing project in East Hollywood as part of Bass’ “Inside Safe” program to house the “unhoused.”

Gude is nowhere near right-of-center, nor does he support Spencer Pratt. His X account says he is a “copwatcher” who is calling for accountability from the Los Angeles Police Department. But with the mayor’s race heating up, he has his sights trained on Karen Bass, her profligate spending and her refusal to be called to account for her horrific record. Gude shouted over the happy talk and disrupted Karen Bass’ remarks as he excoriated and berated Bass for her lack of leadership and the millions of dollars she’s wasted on Inside Safe.
It was pretty epic.

Early voting has already begun in Los Angeles, and the undecided voters are starting to coalesce. An Emerson College/Inside California Politics poll shows Spencer Pratt has overtaken District 4 City Councilwoman and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman to take second place, just eight percentage points behind Karen Bass. While Bass saw a bump after she was endorsed by Kamala Harris, the fact that Pratt is hot on her heels has to be disconcerting, to say the least.
An Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics poll found that 30% of voters support incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, which is up from 20% in March. The poll follows a recent win for Bass: a reported endorsement from former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The poll, which was released on Wednesday, May 13, and conducted several days prior, showed that other candidates have also enjoyed similar growth in support. However, it’s Spencer Pratt, the former reality TV star turned Bass adversary, who saw the largest increase among his fellow candidates; 22% support the former “The Hills” star in May compared to 10% in March.
Meanwhile, 19% support Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, which is up from 9% in March.

Having once lived in Los Angeles and seen its decline, it’s a wonder why people are not angrier. What is necessary is for voters to turn their anger toward the polls and vote Karen Bass out.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
