Hunter played 151 games for the Eagles, kicking 86 goals, and was a member of West Coast’s 2006 premiership-winning team.
He retired from the AFL in 2009 due to chronic shoulder and knee injuries.
Third death to rock AFL community
His death is the third in the AFL community this week after ex-Brisbane Lions player Troy Selwood and Essendon VFL coach Dale Tapping both died on Tuesday.
Selwood, brother of Geelong premiership captain Joel, died aged 40.
His passing was confirmed in a statement released by the AFL from the Selwood family, although no details were released about the cause of his death.
Tapping, a previous assistant coach in the AFL for the Bombers and Brisbane, was diagnosed with myeloma, an aggressive form of blood cancer, in January 2023.
