Para athletics: Clifford ‘numb’ after disqualification
Jaryd Clifford has let the emotions out, after being disqualified from the men’s T13 5,000m final, denying him a bronze medal.
The rules state an athlete running with a guide must hold onto the tether until they cross the finish line, something Clifford didn’t do.
He says he’s still processing the result.
“I went to see mum and dad, and my girlfriend, and broke down and cried on the side of the track,” he said.
βThat was my grieving moment out on the track. Iβm probably still a bit numb right now.β

Para athletics: Roeger was ‘hurting so much’ on final stretch

Michael Roeger had a clear plan for the men’s T46 1500m final – go hard.
He led from the start of the race, and by the final lap had a massive gap on the chasing pack.
But as they came down the final stretch, Roeger started to tire, and Aleksandr Iaremchuk went past him for gold.
Roeger told the Nine Network he couldn’t have done anything more.
“In that last 80 metres, I was hurting so much and wanted that gold so much,” he said.
“I did all the work in the first three laps, so tried to set it up.
“I was going lactic. Had enough of a gap to hold on for second.
“As much as I would have loved that gold medal and that was the dream, I’ve got to be happy. I left it all out there.
“Me and my coach said, ‘Put it on the line early, if they can hold with you’ β¦ and only one ended up holding with me.”

Madison de Rozario has spoken to the Nine Network after her bronze medal in the women’s T54 5,000m, and she’s really pleased to get on the dais.
“It was so elusive. I was fourth when I first raced it, down to fifth in Tokyo and it was one of the worst races of my career,” she said.
“I’m glad to get on the podium. It is one of my favourite events. It was really fun. It was a good race.”
After winning two gold medals in Tokyo without any crowds, de Rozario embraced the fantastic atmosphere at the Stade de France.
“The stadium is unreal. It’s been such a long time since we have been able to do this and it reminds you of what a Paralympics really feels like,” she said.
de Rozario still has plenty more racing to come too, she’ll contest the 1500m, and then will defend her wheelchair marathon crown.
